The popular Mazda B-Series pick-up range has been realigned to offer a higher specification and even better value for money.
The new Mazda B-Series 4x4 Double Cab Barracuda, designed to meet the increasing demand for pick-up vehicles that are both practical and stylish, will be available from October 2004.
Priced at £16,000 (commercial vehicle on-the-road), the Mazda B-Series 4x4 Double Cab Barracuda replaces the RAP Cab 4-Action and the Double Cab 4-Action and 4-Style models. Barracuda models are given a sophisticated new exterior with tubular side steps, exterior chrome mirror covers and chrome rear bumper all added to the specification.
Barracuda vehicles will be available in a selection of three colours: Pacific Blue mica, Black mica or Titanium grey metallic, which makes its debut in the Mazda B-Series range. When combined with the attractive 15" alloy wheels, these features will ensure that the Mazda B-Series Barracuda will become a much sought after vehicle in the pick-up sector.
Already widely noted for its passenger car comfort, the cabin of the revitalised Mazda B-Series lifestyle range has also gained desirable new characteristics. Buyers are also given the option of an attractive leather interior, thatwhich will be available at just £1,000.
All Mazda B-Series Barracuda models will feature a CD-radio stereo system complete with MP3 compatibility, luxury floor mats and a clever new rear console that integrates a triple cup holder.
Commercial Mazda B-Series Vehicles
There are three commercial vehicles in the Mazda B-Series line-up: the entry-level 4x2 Single Cab, the 4x4 Single Cab and the 4x4 Double Cab. These models have also undergone changes to improve practicality and durability. A darker grey cloth seat trim has been added to increase further the model’s reputation for interior luxury.
Other introductions include convenient seat-back pockets, a rear console as on the Mazda B-Series Barracuda and a striking new silver and white instrumentation panel.
Mazda B-Series drivers have also been considered in the changes as a ‘flip-open’ fold away key ring with remote door locking becomes available with the range for the first time (Barracuda only). Along with a new remote fuel cap opener, drivers now have less hassle and more time to appreciate the practicality and ride quality of the Mazda B-Series.
Three Million Sold Worldwide
The Mazda B-Series is a truly versatile pick-up that continues Mazda’s tradition of producing durable, reliable cars that are fun to drive. It is a rugged vehicle that can carry five adults with ease and accommodate a wide variety of cargo on its generous load area, from sandy surfboards to industrial machinery.
The global triumph of the range is evident through over three million units sold worldwide and the multiple international honours that the vehicle has received. It has previously been named as ‘Commercial Vehicle of the Year’ by What Van? magazine in the UK (1999).
Diesel Engine Choices
The Mazda B-Series is powered by a choice of two engines: either the naturally aspirated 2.5-litre diesel which develops 84ps at 4,000rpm with 195Nm of torque at 2,000rpm or the turbo diesel 2.5-litre engine, developing 109ps at 3,500rpm with 266Nm of torque at 2,000rpm.
The engines are combined with a five-speed manual transmission, in either 2WD or 4WD versions (depending on model) with gear ratios set to provide a combination of low gear pulling power, and high gear agility and speed.
Strength and Safety
The robust body structure of the Mazda B-Series is designed to encourage fun driving with excellent safety standards. It features reinforcements at all primary stress points, including members in the floor, the sides of the cabin and the engine compartment.
All Mazda B-Series models come with driver and passenger airbags and all 4x4 models have a rear limited slip differential that distributes torque between the rear wheels for enhanced traction and a safer drive.
An Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) is available on the Barracuda model, as is Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Further safety features include luminosity headlights and a strong body structure. The Mazda B-Series meets all European crash standards.
