Lexington, Ohio — The SpeedSource-prepped Mazda RX-8 yesterday made its second trip to victory circle this season in the Grand Am Sport Touring Series. Driven by Sylvain Tremblay and David Haskell of the SpeedSource Race Engineering team, the number 70 RX-8 took the checkered flag convincingly at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, in Lexington, Ohio, finishing ahead of all other manufactures on the highly competitive grid of the Grand Am Sport Touring Series, including Lexus, BMW, and Acura. Tremblay held off a last-lap challenge from the number 95 Turner Motorsport BMW 330i of Don Salama, which spent the closing stages of the race right on the rear bumper of the Tremblay/Haskell car but was never able to pass the RX-8. Tremblay and Haskell’s first victory in the RX-8 came in round three of the season at Phoenix International Raceway. The Grand-Am Cup Series returns to action for round seven of the 10-race 2004 schedule at Homestead-Miami Speedway on the weekend of September 10-12. Mazda nabbed another spot on the podium over the weekend when Charles Espenlaub drove his number 97 Protegé to a second-place finish in the SPEED World Challenge Touring Class, at Mosport International Raceway in Ontario, Canada. The next stop for the SPEED World Challenge series will be at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on August 21-22. © Copyright 2003 by YourSITE.com |
